A Welcome Message from the Owner and Clinical Director

Thank you for taking time to get to know us at Archstone Counseling!

With words on a page (or website) it is hard to know the people behind the marketing.  Archstone Counseling & Treatment is owned by two clinicians, Susan Archer, LCSW and Mason Whipp, LCSW. We are both Licensed Clinical Social Workers. I am Susan Archer, writing this overview and I started Archstone in 2007.  In 2010 Mason Whipp, LCSW joined the practice and believed in my vision to create the program that we have today. She is now my colleague, friend and partner in ownership of Archstone Counseling & Treatment.

After working for others for many years in settings providing treatment for Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health Disorders in hospitals and prisons for both SUD and MH I decided to go out on my own.  At the time is was an unknown adventure, quite scary to be honest.  I just knew I wanted to do group treatment in a setting where I had clinical control to do treatment in a manner that I found effective.   My goal is to provide care to each person remembering their humanness.  So simple, yet so easy to get lost in the many things we do to provide care such as paperwork, licensing, billing.  We still do all that, but we work hard to focus on the care of each unique human!

In addition to over 20 years of experience in conducting and supervising groups and clinicians I am also Veteran and a former first responder.  I was a medic on active duty in the U.S. Army and later in the National Guard and I am proud to have served our country.  As a mental health therapist I like treating first responder trauma and my favorite identity as therapist is a trauma therapist.  I can and have heard traumatic things of wartime and other disasters and I know people who serve in these roles go through unimaginable things. I know the process of healing those hurts.  It is not a small task, but worth the effort to reclaim your life freeing yourself from as much of the damage as possible that going through those events caused.  A lot is possible.  If you are a Veteran, check out our Veterans tab to learn more about our Veterans Track.
